Hey guys,

Somehow I managed to blast through the remaining work for block times and put it up on production!

Now that we can finally guess block times I am expecting the number of calls to Ethereum API is reduced by 20-30x ! This will also save us gigabytes of storage. Currently Datamine Network database is sitting at 2.6GB of data!

I have more planned for the future to reduce this even further. For now I feel like as long as we do under 50,000 Ethereum API calls per day we're in a good spot.

With block times out of the way I can jump onto bigger and better things! There are a ton of updates to come for Uniswap V3 so be sure to stay tuned 🔥

Hey guys,

Wanted to give you an update on the global block time data point.

Today I've been able to estimate timestamp of our first block using the following:

Knowing block 10027210 is at timestamp of 1588962334

Find timestamp of block 10027240

Difference between two blocks is 30 blocks. The current threshold of block estimation is (+-276 which is derived from (60 / avgBlockTimeSeconds) * 60)

Estimated timestamp: Friday, May 8, 2020 18:32:04

Actual timestamp: Friday, May 8, 2020 18:33:30

As you can see we are pretty close to the actual timestamp. For our needs an error rate of 60 minutes is acceptable. If we find this is not accurate enough we can always reduce our estimates.

This block time estimation is very powerful and will save us on a ton of resources. In the future there might be better ways to fetch block times and we will utilize these apis but for now this is perfect!

There is still a few more tweaks to do but I expect we'll make good progress in the next two days. Don't forget this will apply to all of the current data points. Also note that this will no impact historic USDc pricing as that doesn't use timestamps.
